Install a Sump Pump
A sump pump is a device that is used to remove water that has accumulated in a sump pit. It is usually installed in the lowest part of the basement where water is most likely to collect.
The sump pit is usually located in the corner of the basement. The pump is operated by an electric switch that is turned on when the water level in the pit reaches a certain level. It pumps the water out of the pit and drains it away from the basement.
Install a French Drain
One way to help waterproof your basement is to install a French drain. This is a type of drainage system that helps redirect water away from your home.
It is filled with gravel or other types of rocks and has a pipe that carries water away from your home. The trench is usually sloped so that water can flow away from your home and into a different drainage system.
Seal Your Foundation
You can do this yourself with a silicone sealant or a polyurethane sealant. If you’re using a silicone sealant, apply it to the joint between the foundation and the basement wall.
If you’re using a polyurethane sealant, apply it to the entire surface of the foundation wall. Once you’ve applied the sealant, you need to wait for it to cure. This usually takes 24 hours.
After the sealant has cured, you can apply a waterproofing membrane to the foundation wall. This will help to keep water out of your basement.
Install a Backwater Valve
This will help to prevent water from seeping in through cracks in the foundation or walls and will also keep your basement flooding if there is a problem with the sewer line.
Backwater valves are relatively easy to install and can be a great way to protect your home from water damage.
Have It Professionally Done
