Luxurious Seating Options For Your Living Room

Pexels. CCO Licensed.

Chairs come in various degrees of luxury. At the bottom of the scale you have your basic plastic chairs and wooden barstools. At the top end of the scale, you have ornate antique couches and luxurious armchairs. This post takes a look at some of the latter types of seating and how to incorporate them into your living room.

Chesterfield sofa

One of the most timeless styles of sofa is the Chesterfield. These sofas were first invented in the mid-1700s and still popular today in many homes for their iconic deep buttoned appearance and high level of comfort. The best Chesterfield sofas are handmade in the UK. They can be bought brand new, or you can buy a used Chesterfield. Antique Chesterfields dating back over 100 years are highly sought after and often come at a higher price.

Camelback sofa

The camelback sofa is another sofa style with Georgian origins. It has a distinct humped back and is often raised on wooden legs – helping to make a room look more spacious by making more floor space visible. Antique camelback sofas look great in period homes, serving as dramatic statement pieces. Less ornate contemporary styles of camelback can be purchased for more modern homes that are available in an array of colors.

Recliner armchair

Recliner armchairs allow you to sit back and put your feet up. They are the ideal armchair for relaxing in after a stressful day. Such armchairs are great for positioning in the corner of a room under a floor standing lamp, or for placing by a fireplace (just make sure to choose a non-flammable material). It’s worth noting that there are a few different styles of recliner that you can choose from. Recliner armchairs with cupholders are ideal for a home-theater-style living room. You can also buy massage recliner armchairs that can help ease joint pain. Alternatively, you may simply prefer a standard recliner armchair with no extra accessories.

Chaise lounge

The chaise lounge is a hybrid of a bed and a sofa. It’s designed for lying on with one’s feet up rather than sitting on. Antique chaise lounges are best suited for period homes – some of these are very extravagant and have velvet seats and dark hardwood legs. There are also more modern chaise lounges that you can buy for modern living rooms. Chaise lounges are ideal for placing under windows or in the corners of rooms in reading nooks.

Sectional corner sofa

Sectional corner sofas are typically custom made to fit the dimensions of a living room. If you have an oddly shaped room, such a sofa could be a great option. Such sofas can also be designed with many seats – making them ideal for those with large families or homes that regularly have lots of guests over. You may also have the option to decide the type of fabric as well as whether to have armrests.

Egg chair

Egg chairs are designed to wrap around the person sitting on them. They’re very cozy and they have a very playful appearance. You can choose from a fixed egg chair, a rotating egg chair or a hanging egg chair. Such chairs are best placed in the corner of a room.
